【摘要】:Thesoilswell/collapsestrainsmeasuredfromthesetestmethodscanbeusedtodevelopestimatesofheaveorsettlementforaconfinedsoilprofilesubjecttoone-dimensionalheaveorsettlement,orstress-inducedsettlementfollowingwetting-inducedheave/settlement.Theycanalsobeusedtoestimatethepressurethatwouldbenecessarytopreventswelling.Selectionoftestmethod,loading,andinundationsequencesshould,ascloselyaspossible,simulatefieldconditionsbecauserelativelysmallvariationsinunitweightandwatercontent,orsequenceofloadingandwettingcansignificantlyalterthetestresults.(See6.1.8andRefs(1-5).)Note28212;Notwithstandingthestatementonprecisionandbiascontainedinthisstandard:Theprecisionofthistestmethodisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingthetestandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgencieswhichmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting.UsersofthistestmethodarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliabletesting.Reliabletestingdependsonseveralfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthesefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthreealternativelaboratorymethodsformeasuringfreeswell,swellpressure,andthemagnitudeofone-dimensionalswellorcollapseofcompactedorintactcohesivesoils.Note18212;RefertoSections4,5,6and13.8todeterminethebestmethodforaparticularapplication.1.2Thetestmethodscanbeusedtomeasurethemagnitudeofone-dimensionalwetting-inducedswellorcollapse(hydrocompression)underdifferentvertical(axial)pressures,aswellasthemagnitudeofswellpressureandthemagnitudeoffreeswell.Itcanalsobeusedtoobtaindataforstress-inducedcompressionfollowingwetting-inducedswellorcollapse.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsareapproximate.1.4AllmeasuredandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.4.1Themethodusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected,calculated,orrecordedinthisstandardisnotdirectlyrelatedtotheaccuracytowhichthedatacanbeappliedindesignorotheruses.Howoneappliestheresultsobtainedusingthisstandardisbeyonditsscope.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
