【摘要】:Thistestmethodisintendedtobeusedinspecificationswhereporosityofcellularplasticshasadirectbearingontheirenduse.Forexample,forthermalinsulationapplications,ahighpercentageofclosedcellsisnecessarytopreventescapeofgasesandtopromotelowthermalconductivity.Inflotationapplications,highclosed-cellcontentgenerallyreduceswaterabsorption.Beforeproceedingwiththistestmethod,referenceshallbemadetothespecificationofthematerialbeingtested.Anytestspecimenpreparation,conditioning,ordimensions,orboth,andtestingparameterscoveredinthematerialsspecificationshalltakeprecedenceoverthosementionedinthistestmethod.Iftherearenomaterialspecifications,thenthedefaultconditionsapply.1.1Thistestmethodcoverscellularplastics,whicharecomposedofmembranesorwallsofpolymerseparatingsmallcavitiesorcells.Thesecellsmaybeinterconnecting(opencell),non-connecting(closedcell),oranycombinationofthesetypes.Thistestmethoddeterminesnumericalvaluesforopencells.Itisaporositydetermination,measuringtheaccessiblecellularvolumeofamaterial.Theremainingvolumeisthatoccupiedbyclosedcellsandcellwalls.Sinceanyconvenientlysizedspecimencanonlybeobtainedbysomecuttingoperation,afractionoftheclosedcellswillbeopenedbyspecimenpreparationandwillbeincludedasopencells,(seeNote2).1.2Thistestmethodprovidesgoodaccuracyonpredominantlyhighlyopen-celledmaterials.Bynotaccountingforclosedcellsthatwereopenedduringspecimenpreparation,theaccuracydecreasesastheclosedcellcontentincreasesandasthecellsizeincreases.1.3ThevaluesasstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesinparenthesesaregivenforreferenceonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Note18212;ThistestmethodandISO4590usethesamebasicprinciplesbutaresignificantlydifferentinexperimentaldetail.Note28212;TwoproceduresforcorrectingforcellsopenedduringspecimenpreparationaredescribedinAppendixX1.1.
